Inspired by living in Alaska 2018/2019
Ikiaq of the Iñupiat tribe is a reflection of how incredible and tough the indigenous tribes of Alaska are. Her unwavering spirit is undeterred by the cold, rather it thrives there. Here traditional practises such as whaling still occur (though altered) and their culture to some extend remains preserved due to the remoteness of the tribes. This portrait is influenced by the archived photographs of my friend (a descendant of the Iñupiat tribe’s) Grandmother.
